Job 32:8 “There is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.”
We are told that the mighty Solomon with all his wealth and understanding, all his power and glory, was not “arrayed” like one of the lilies of the field. What a shock to the human ego which believes it has built up fame and fortune for through its own power!
At Easter, the lily has true significance. In the darkness deep within the bulb lies the germ of life, sheltered by the bulb itself. As the germ of life expands, the bulb feeds the plant through the law of absorption. Gradually, as the lily sends its roots into the earth, so also it sends shoots into the air and sunshine to absorb the elements above. Actually, much of its growth depends upon the amount of the elements which it is able to absorb within itself.
Like the lily we can truly do nothing of ourselves, but through the Spirit within we can draw to ourselves, life, love, wisdom, intelligence and abundance. Then our inner desires and dreams do come into manifestation, for we are reaching above ourselves, our purely physical selves, to our spiritual nature. The amount of spiritual growth we attain depends on our degree of receptivity or absorption of divine ideas. We can, with Paul, declare, “Not I, but Christ liveth in me.” (Gal. 2:20)
Our spiritual thought for the day is: I have my existence in God. Thank you, dear God.
