1 John 4:19 “We love him, because he first loved us.”
No matter what we might have done, no matter what mistake we may make, God never stops loving us.
Old Testament prophets often warned the people that the wrath of God would descend on them. They tried to keep people good by keeping them in fear. This has never worked.
Jesus taught us of a forgiving God of love. In Matthew 5:44 he said, “Love your enemies that ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.” If God forgives and doesn’t condemn us, then we must not label ourselves or others as unforgivable, unworthy, or unlovable.
But when we are not living up to the highest we know, when we’re being unloving, dishonest or envious, we’re unable to feel God’s presence. We feel separated from God. The feeling is only within ourselves, and at any time we can repent and return to the Father’s love.
Our spiritual thought for the day is: Father, thank you for your constant love.
