Deuteronomy 4:30, 31 “If thou turn to the Lord thy God, and shalt be obedient unto his voice … he will not forsake thee.”
God speaks to us in many ways, sometimes in “a still, small voice.” We may not always hear with our physical ears, but God’s voice is audible to the inner ear. We know when God is trying to tell us something, and we can avoid a lot of trouble if we train ourselves to be receptive. Abraham was told, “Get thee out of thy country … unto a land that I will show thee.” This was an order. God’s assurance, “I will show thee,” is the true essence of the command. We are never left foundering.
When we see ourselves as citizens of the universe, we don’t hear the voice of God within with fear. We feel that we are partners with God in the achieving of His will for us. This is what “obedient unto his voice” means. When we give God priority, we no longer are attached sentimentally to self-will, or to material things. Like Abraham, we can leave it all behind and follow God’s directions, knowing that the end result will be better than we dare to imagine.
Our spiritual thought for the day is: God will never forsake me. I am obedient to His voice. Thank you Father God.
