John 3:3 “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
Nicodemus learns that the way to seek God is an inner journey. He’s told that God is not found in the outer, ordinary world of appearances, but in the dawning realization of truth within: “… that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” Here, “by night” he himself is born, spiritually enlightened in the knowledge of the Christ.
The name Nicodemus means, literally, “victory of the people.” The private journey within always results in a public expression. What we come to realize through the story of Nicodemus is that our victory in the world comes through our belief in the Christ the image of God in us and in everyone. The story of Nicodemus allows us an answer, a way, encouragement toward the resurrection consciousness.
The victory of the people, your victory and mine, is through our belief in our real name, our true identity, the Christ within. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” This is what Jesus reveals to Nicodemus in the silence of the night. This is the light that heals. This is the gift, and the victory.
Our spiritual thought for the day: I am born again in the realization of my one-ness with God.
