The Executive Board of Valley Community Church, Divine Science has been
planning the construction of a columbaria wall for the past year and a half.
This wall is designed to provide secure burial niches, each of which will hold
the cremated remains of two people. Their name/s will be identified by a
handsome metal plaque. There will be seventy-two niches in this twenty-two
foot wall.
The columbaria will be built adjacent to our beautiful Meditation Garden, will
include perpetual care and our ministers will do a yearly ceremony of
remembrance for all participants.
A traditional funeral can be one of the three or four most expensive purchases
we make, with an average cost of $6,000 to $15,000 or more, excluding the
cost of a burial site, grave marker and opening and closing the grave. A
simple cremation is about $2,000, and with use of a visitation room, chapel,
etc., can cost $2,250. Considering these costs, many people have begun
thinking of cremation/columbarium as a sensible yet caring end-of-life
arrangement.

accommodate one or two wooden burial boxes made of oak, walnut or cherry or another simpler container.
The columbaria wall will be a pleasing semi-circle with a stamped concrete patio and fountain immediately in front of it, and attractive
landscaping surrounding it. Considering the average buria/gravesite cost verses cremation/columbaria, please indicate your interest
